Ian B Hamilton

President 2001-02 & 2006-07

Ian is an extremely keen ‘Thematelist’ and has extensive collections of Railways and Golf. The postal history of Bo’ness is another of his interests.

His involvement in organised Philately is just as extensive – apart from being a Past President of the Caley – he is an Honorary Vice-President of Bearsden and District Philatelic Society; a member of the Glasgow Thematic Society; Glasgow Philatelic Society; and Strathclyde Postcard Club (in all of which he has served as President). He is also a member of The Royal Philatelic Society of London, The Railway Philatelic Group, The Casey Jones Railroad Unit; The Scottish Postal History Society, The ALBA Stamp Group and the International Golf Collectors Society.

In 1985/86 he was President of the Association of Scottish Philatelic Societies; from 1990 to 95 he served as National Exhibition Secretary of the  ASPS and in 1995 was awarded the Alex McConnell medal for services to Scottish Philately.

In 2006 He was Vice-President of the 88th Philatelic Congress of Great Britain held at Renfrew and hosted by The Caledonian.

It may not seem like it but Philately doesn’t rule his life entirely as he is a very keen golfer He is a member of Douglas Park Golf Club where he has served as Match Secretary and had the honour of being Captain in 1993.
